To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued.
Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity. If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request. To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood).
Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios.
One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola). This is a large and very visible forum. It is only 1000mah NiCD and sells for $35was bought at a hamfest new. It will NOT charge in the IMPRESScharger, but will charge in the standard Saber rapid charger.Hope this helps!73, de PeteK4QHRXTS5000 UHF FPPXTS5000 VHF FPPXTS5000 800 M3 (FOR SALE!!). Thank you for the replies and help.Another question I had. What would you suggest on what I am looking for? $35 does sound alot cheaper than $175. I do need some power for transmitting.
Not much.I am looking for something small but that will give me some transmit as well as some monitoring. I don't want to have to carry 2 extra batteries, one extra would be good to carry.I am also not sure I understand the difference between the Impress versus the standard Moto Astro Saber battery charger which I have.Any suggestions?Thank you again for the help. I'll start with what I use for my sabers, I have two multiplier 'shorter' batteries, their version of the NTN4593 (3.25' & 1200mAh) that I bought new in February of 2006, they still work fine, and I charge them correctly as needed. I also have two motorola 4' batteries that I got used at various times, one with a $5 parts radio I bought (and that battery lasts a long time) and another I got with a radio. At the time I got the Multipliers for a sale price of $30 each, drop shipped direct from the factory.
They are the only brand battery I would buy for the motorlolas besides factory. The Impres charger and battery system is just about a fool proof way to keep a battery charged and in tip-top shape. The battery has a chip inside that tells the charger about itself 'Hi, I'm steve, feel me up big daddy'.Ok not quite, but the charger can tell when the battery needs to be reconditioned, and automatically does it. You can also do a partial charge, say if you use the radio for a few hours but you need it fully charged again later, just pop it in the Impress charger with no worries about memory issues. Some later radios have a 'fuel gauge' that will actually show what the cap of the battery attached is.Also, the chargers with a display will show the condition of the battery, and other info. It is only one of the gang chargers, but there is a mod to add it to a regular single position Impres charger as well.Basically, it's cool, and works, and somewhat pricy for fooling around/ham use, but if you really depend on your gear (or are a ham like me who also does not want to screw around with half-baked stuff), then the Impres system is a good way to go.Here is some more stuff. Now the bad, the only IMpres battery for the saber family is 1800mAh, and heavy. It's a nicad, so it's something to drag around.
The XTS boys get the cool 4150mAh LiIon Impress battery while the saber toting boys get left out in the rain:lol: If I would have kept my XTS5000, I would have bought one, but I like a sexy slim radio like the sabers.Funny, I like my women just the opposite, bring on the fattys. Again thank you for the help and insight.
The recent post on the 1350MaH batt, I guess those would fit the Astro Saber as well? I am not finding those batteries 1350MaH on the Moto parts list. Maybe I over looked it.I do appreciate the help and info on the Impress Battery charger. In a nut shell, I just need something with about half the time for monitoring and half for transmitting with half the size. Those bigger batteries are just too big and bulky to carry any more. I am not in favor of the XTS5000 because I feel the Astro Saber's are more rugged and can take a 'hit' than the cheaper plastic.About 10yrs ago I had a normal VHF Saber. Bottom line, it was run over by a pickup truck pulling a double axel wheel trailor.
When I picked it up, it still worked and the display was not even cracked. The battery and housing were scuffed but it passed a test like no other and you could still program it, transmit on it and recieve just like new. Amazing! In the above mentioned case, I think the XTS family of radio's would have just busted into a million piece's.Thank you again for the help. Well, when I stuck it in the Impress Charger, the charger just did a rapid blinking red light. I have no idea why the W&W wont charge in it. Maybe because the W&W is a POS?
It was cheap at the time, and I just charge them in the saber charger. They work fine.73, de PeteK4QHRMotorola Quantar UHF at 500' 444.200+ NAC A55Motorola XTS5000 UHF FPPMotorola XTS5000 VHF FPPMotorola XTS5000 800 M3Motorola XTS3000 UHF M1Motorola AS2 VHFMotorola Astro Spectra UHF W7Motorola Astro Spectra VHF W7all with OFB.
Astro Saber Batteries For Sale
Think its an addiction? Well you said it, not me:lol:Ok, checked with a dealer on the batlabs forums who gives discounts to it's members.7014 is $68-NTN7014BR - 1350mah NiMH -MSRP $1208818 is $148-NTN8818A - 1700mah LiON - MSRP $183That LiIon is still pricey, but it would be very light. There is another dealer that sells their own batteries, and she says she can sell a 3000mah LiIon for $75. Might be great, might not. She does have a one year warranty, and she has been recommended over the years for service. For something like a LiIon battery, I would stick with factory.
I would not want to risk anything to save a few bucks. I would strongly advise against buying any W&W batteries, particularly their LI batteries. My experiences with them have been less than positive.
Realliy bad, I'd say.I can show you a radio (an Icom) that melted when the W&W battery that was on it caughtfire and exploded while in the (li-ion rated) charger. It did considerable damage to the6-unit charger it was in in addition to destroying the radio. The company I work for willno longer carry W&W batteries and sent them ALL out for safe disposal.Check Power Products, too. They make good batteries.I'm using an NTN8818A on an Astro Saber and so far, I'm pleased with it. It's the onlyshort pack I've yet found that will support an Astro Saber all day on one charge. (Butwith only limited use of the transmitter.
Talk a lot and it's still not enough.)Elroy.
